CatPeople are a Spanish alternative band from Vigo (Galicia). The present line-up of the band consists of Adrián PD (vocals), Javier Abalo (guitar), Nadas (bass guitar), Raul Muñoz (keyboards) and Paco Iglesias (drums). Halfway through 2005, with a diverse repertoire and a defined style, the whole band moved to Barcelona where they still live today. CatPeople’s own variation of indie style draws on influences from both older and contemporary bands. In January 2006 and after the success of the demo Catpeople! they recorded their first album, Reel1. A Few weeks later, it became the first debut to get to the number one in the Spanish Top Ten of Mondosonoro magazine. Reel1 drew critical acclaim from many Spanish audiovisual aids. Their first single, “Radio”, became a national hit in the independent scene. The repertoire of the album had a polished style that would be soon recognized as their brand new sound all their own. The recording was also published in many other countries. CatPeople’s popularity was rising in accordance with the release of their second album, What’s the time Mr. Wolf?, published and distributed by Pías, and recorded in Blind Records (Barcelona) at the end of 2007. CatPeople produced the album with the collaboration of the Blind Joe’s. The recording took more time but they didn’t stop until they got it perfect. They worked on the sound and the result was brilliant. The album consists of twelve moving songs where anger and melancholy come together. The band’s improvements are evidenced in each song. Their second album marked an evolution in CatPeople’s musical style, as it obtained a more consolidated one. This album has appeared in a large number of listener polls and critics’ list. CatPeople began gaining success. It took them to play in many festivals such as Benicassim, Contempopranea, Sonorama, and other festivals of international renown (Popkomm, Europavox, Paredes de Coura). They were the up-and-coming “Band to Watch” by the time. With both albums, featuring an expansive sound and themes full of strength and melancholy, they recruited a wide audience as seen on their live shows: they have attracted large crowds of fans to sold-out concerts. CatPeople are on the right trajectory to become a band of international renown while becoming a reference point to the national independent scene(lasfm).
